Sensory Deprivation/ Overload
The entire body is a sensory organ…it is how we experience and perceive the world. Sensory deprivation play involves restricting one or more of the senses in order to heighten the experience of the others, such as having someone wear a blindfold to heighten their sense of touch, hearing, smell, or taste. Sensory overload involves subjecting a person to a variety of sensations simultaneously to overwhelm the senses. Toys such as fur, Wartenburg wheels, fingers, impact toys, clothespins, brushes, feathers, violet wands, etc. may be used to create the sensations.
